U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon) joined most Republicans in the U.S. House in voting against a resolution on Thursday that aimed to limit President Donald Trump’s military powers in dealing with Iran.
The resolution, which received the support of almost the entire Democratic delegation of the U.S. House, directs Trump to end military engagements with Iran unless the U.S. Congress authorizes the use of force against the country. Several Texas Democrats signed on to sponsor the bill as it made its way to a vote in the House.
Members passed the resolution along a 224-194 vote, with three Republicans and eight Democrats breaking with their parties.
A similar bill is currently working its way through the U.S. Senate.
