Road Project to Begin in Woodlands

A Road Improvement Project approved by voters for the Woodlands area is scheduled to begin Wednesday (May 15.)

The project is part of the 2017-2021 Community Investment Program and is funded by Proposition 1, approved by voters in November 2016.

The project will require the closure of roads in the Woodlands area for approximately 24 hours. Roads in the area will be closed according to a daily schedule. Not all roads in the Woodlands area will be closed at the same time. However, residents and motorists will want to find alternate routes at various times throughout the project due to the necessity of multiple road closures. The estimated time frame for the project is seven working days, depending on weather conditions.

Amarillo City Council awarded the $340,547.86 contract for the Road Improvement Project to Andale Construction Inc. The contract includes provisions to help minimize the impact to neighborhood traffic. Andale Construction will distribute notification fliers to residents in the Woodlands area beginning Sunday (May 12.)

During the duration of the project, assistance is being provided for Woodlands residents who need transportation to and from their homes. A shuttle service will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. Residents will be able to park within walking distance of their homes.

The Road Improvement Project consists of a “High Density Mineral Bond.” The product requires the closure of roads for a 24-hour period. The product is a compliment to the city’s seal coat maintenance program, and is used in other municipalities.

“The City and its contractor would like to thank residents and motorists in advanced for their patience and understanding,” said Kyle Schnierderjan, City of Amarillo Director of Capital Project Development Engineering. “Once the project is complete, residents will enjoy high-quality roads that will enhance our transportation infrastructure and public safety.”
