Rosser's Ramblings: Yellow City Comic Con to Host 'Guardians' Star

By Trent Rosser

What do ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Flash Gordon’ have in common? They will be both be in Amarillo this weekend.

Starting today at the Amarillo Civic Center is the annual Yellow City Comic Con. The event this year is star studded with stars from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ ‘Power Rangers,’ ‘Flash Gordon’ and even from ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer.’ Many vendor booths will be set up, as well as a gaming room. But, in my humble opinion, it is nothing compared to all the elaborate costumes.

I had the pleasure to attend a few years ago and was able to meet Jake “The Snake” Roberts, a hall of fame wrestler. The joy I felt most was seeing everyone dressed up. It did not matter of age, race or gender. Many people were dressed to kill. I saw an original Obi Wan from ‘Star Wars’, a “Lego” Deadpool, and even Superman and Batman were there. One thing was for sure, everyone was having a great time. This year the stars have lined up to attend and meet the people of Amarillo.

If you have seen ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ you might be interested to meet Sean Gunn. Mr. Gunn played the part of Kraglin. He was the first mate of Yondu and at the end of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’, he was bestowed the flying arrow. That was not his only part. He also provided the motion capture for Rocket the Racoon in both ‘Guardians’ movies as well as ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Some of course might also remember him as a series regular Kirk Gleason in the hit T.V. show ‘Gilmore Girls.’

Sam Jones is no stranger to the stars also. Most would remember him as Flash Gordon from the 1980 feature film. Some younger fans would also remember him as he starred as himself in the movie ‘Ted’ and its sequel ‘Ted 2’. Flash Gordon has become a cult favorite.

Actor Nicholas Brendon will be in town also. He played Xander Harris in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and Kevin Lynch in ‘Criminal Minds’. He is currently involved with ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Season 10, a canonical comic book series centering on his character.

‘Power Rangers’ fans will be happy to hear that Hector David Jr. will also be in town. He played the green Power Ranger from ‘Saban’s Power Rangers Samurai’ He also starred in ‘Power Rangers Super Megaforce’ and ‘Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief’.

These stars and more will be in attendance this weekend. It is something that everyone of all ages will enjoy. Also for a special treat, on Sunday, Mothers will get in free with the admission of a child. This weekend will be full of fun and excitement with Games, Cosplay and many other activities. Fans can even expect panel discussions with the stars. Come dressed as you are, or come dressed as your favorite hero, or even your favorite villain.
