Female Passenger Hospitalized Following Easter Wreck

A female passenger in a vehicle was hospitalized following a wreck on Sunday.

According to the Amarillo Police Departments, officers were dispatched early Sunday morning to a vehicle collision in the 3400 block of South Bell Street. A 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Alfredo Renteria, 24, had been northbound on South Bell. Renteria allegedly lost control of his SUV, leaving Bell Street, before going through a cement embankment, crashing through several fences and striking two trees. Renteria ended back on Bell Street following the incident.

Renteria was arrested and booked into the Randall County Sheriff’s Jail on a charge of intoxicated assault. A 24-year-old female passenger was ejected from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Speed, alcohol, and no seat belt are believed to be factors in this wreck, APD says.

This incident is under investigation by the APD Traffic Investigation Squad.
