Torch Announces Run for City Council

Another candidate is taking the leap into Amarillo electoral politics.

Brad Torch announced last week that he plans to be a candidate in the race for the Amarillo City Council, Place 3 seat. According to Torch’s LinkedIn page, he is a case manager for the Texas Panhandle Centers - Behavioral & Developmental Health. Torch studied at the University of New Mexico.

Torch’s candidacy gives Councilman Eddy Sauer his first official challenger. Sauer, a local dentist, was elected to the Amarillo City Council in 2017, benefiting heavily from the backing of local special interest group Amarillo Matters. Before being elected, Sauer unsuccessfully sought appointment to the Amarillo City Council in 2016.

Signatures are currently being collected to get Torch on the ballot, but he has not yet filed for a spot on the ballot. Candidate filings will continue through Friday.
