City Council OK's Paid Parking in Amarillo

It's time to pay up in downtown Amarillo.

On Tuesday night, the Amarillo City Council voted unanimously to approve a plan to institute paid parking in downtown Amarillo. The plan will force drivers to pay to park in most areas downtown, including areas east of Harrison Street and north of 11th Avenue. Under the new plan, parking will run between 50 cents and $1.50 for an hour of parking time.

Those using the parking system will also be required to pay electronically. An account must be created through the service provider, which will allow those parking to pay by credit card, PayPal or by bank withdrawal.

The plan is expected to be implemented in January.
