Amarillo City Council OK's Red Light Camera Additions

More red light cameras are coming to Amarillo.

On Tuesday night, the Amarillo City Council voted unanimously to approve the addition of new red light cameras in Amarillo. Following the vote, seven new red light cameras will be installed at intersections around town. At the same time, three red light cameras will be removed from existing intersections in Amarillo.

Red light cameras will be added at the following intersections:

  • Taylor & 10th

  • Grand & I-40

  • Buchanan & 3rd

  • Grand & I-40

  • Pierce & Amarillo Blvd

  • Bell & Plains

  • Georgia & 26th

The resolution to approve the addition of the new cameras was listed in the Amarillo City Council's consent agenda for Tuesday night. Councilmembers voted 5-0 to approve the bill after a successful motion for consideration by Councilmember Freda Powell and a "second" by Councilmember Howard Smith.

This vote by the City Council marks the fourth amendment to the City of Amarillo's red light camera contract between the City of Amarillo and American Traffic Solutions, Inc. The contract was first approved in 2007.
