Smith to Rappel Down Building for Charity

Councilmember Howard Smith is about to go "Over the Edge."

According to information released on Friday, Smith is planning to take on the "Over the Edge" challenge by Family Support Services of Amarillo. As part of the fundraiser, Smith will raise money from friends and family and will rappel over the side of the Santa Fe Building (900 South Polk) on Thursday, August 16th.

"Family Support Services provides wonderful services to our community," Smith said in a statement.

Information from an online fundraiser shows that, as of Friday afternoon, Smith has raised $285 of his $1,000 goal to go Over the Edge.

Smith, who currently serves on the Amarillo City Council, was first elected to his seat in May of 2017. A local realtor, Smith previously served on the Amarillo Independent School District Board of Trustees.
