An incident involving Amarillo SWAT units ended in a self-inflicted shooting on Monday.
According to the Amarillo Police Department, officers were sent to the 4400 block of Tiffani on a welfare check of a possibly suicidal male. When officers arrived, they made contact with the 45-year-old subject, who was armed with a handgun. SWAT negotiators were called and spoke to the subject for several hours, but the subject refused to exit the home.
The male eventually stopped talking to negotiators and SWAT units entered the home. The subject was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
APD Special Crimes is investigating. The next of kin has been notified.
