Man Killed in Amarillo SWAT Situation

A man was killed on Tuesday during a SWAT situation in the 4100 block of Harmony.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, officers were called to a residence in the 4100 block of Harmony on Tuesday. Officers were told that a male subject was armed with a firearm and was suffering from a mental health emergency. Officers arrived and made contact with the man by phone and he came out of the residence, holding the firearm. The man fired off a round as he walked back in to the residence. He entered the house and then fired the gun several more times.

SWAT units and negotiators were called to the scene. The man existed the residence again and walked to the street still armed with the firearm. The man fired the gun again and an APD officer fired at the subject and struck him. The man died at the scene.

No officers injured in the incident. The officer has been placed on mandatory administrative leave.

The Amarillo Police Department Special Crimes Unit is investigating.
