Voting Closed in Amarillo Baseball Naming Contest

Your time to vote in the Amarillo Professional Baseball 'Name the Team' sweepstakes has now ended.

According to Amarillo Professional Baseball, voting in the contest ended on Wednesday. Residents from Amarillo were invited to vote on five names selected as finalists to become the permanent name of the team that will occupy a stadium in downtown Amarillo, as early as spring of next year. The five finalists - the Boot Scooters, Bronc Busters, Jerky, Long Haulers and Sod Poodles - drew criticism from some in the community at the time of the announcement. However, it is expected that one of these five names will become the official name for the team when the doors to the stadium open.

A winner is expected to be announced in the fall.
