Land Unseats Powell in Democratic Chair Race

A challenger unseated an incumbent in last night's race for the Potter County Democratic Party chairman position.

Steve Land, vice president of the Potter-Randall Democratic Club, claimed victory in last night's race over incumbent Gentry Powell. Land, who said he ran a positive campaign to not cause any major divisions in the party, toppled the incumbent Powell, with 737 votes, or about 52 percent, in the final unofficial tally from Tuesday night. Powell won 682 votes, or about 48 percent.

The Potter County Democratic chair acts at the chairman of the local party in Potter County and presides over the County's executive committee. In addition, the chairman also fills vacancies on the executive committee and presides over local primary elections.

On the Republican side, Potter County chairman Bill Bandy was unopposed. Bandy was appointed to the county chair spot for the Republican Party after incumbent Jim F. Lowder, II, exited the race following a filing error.
