The Amarillo High School Lady Sandies claimed the UIL 5A Basketball title last week.
In a nail-biting barnburner at the Alamodome in San Antonio, the Amarillo High Lady Sandies shot down the championship aspirations of the Mansfield Timberview Wolves in a 59-54 victory. The victory saw the Lady Sandies come from behind after being pressured by the Wolves in the early part of the contest. However, by halftime, the Sandies were rolling and pulled the game back to even.
Amarillo High's title is the third for the Lady Sandies. AHS also claimed basketball titles in 1993 and 1994.
In addition to the championship, the Lady Sandies ended the season with a strong 38-2 record.
