Canyon City Commissioners will consider approving the 2017 annual Canyon Police report and racial profiling report during Monday's regularly scheduled meeting.
On Monday, Commissioners will vote on whether to accept the police report and racial profiling report. According to a memo from Canyon Police Chief Dale Davis, state law requires the police department to collect racial profiling data for presentation to the municipality's governing authority.
2017 numbers from the report show 2,119 traffic stops were conducted by Canyon Police in 2017. Of those stops, 72 percent of drivers stopped were Caucasian, 21 percent were Hispanic and 5 percent were African-American. In 215, or 10 percent of stops, police knew the ethnicity of the driver prior to the stop.
Also during the meeting, the Commission will discuss seal coating and water improvement bids.
The meeting will be held on Monday, February 5th at Canyon City Hall (301 16th Street, Canyon). The meeting will begin at 5:30pm.
