Freda Powell is expected to announce a bid for re-election to the Amarillo City Council next week.
On December 18th, at Amarillo City Hall, Powell will make an announcement to her supporters and members of the media. The press conference is being advertised with Powell’s campaign logo that was in use two years ago, as she is expected to make the official kickoff announcement of her re-election bid.
Powell, an office manager, was elected to the Amarillo City Council in 2017, beating insurance broker James Schenck to replace the retiring Lisa Blake. Powell benefited heavily from support by Amarillo Matters in her race, as she claimed victory against Schenck, a vocal Trump supporter and conservative activist.
So far, no candidates have officially announced bids against Powell. Powell’s entry into the contest will mark the eighth candidate to announce a bid, or begin organizing a campaign for a spot on the Council this year.
The election will be held in May 2019.
