Photos by Pruitt on Display at AC

The mixed-media photography of Amarillo’s Joann Lindsey Pruitt is on display in the Southern Light Gallery at Amarillo College.

The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, is called “Looking Down” and is available for viewing now through Jan. 9.

Pruitt is drawn to patterns, textures, shapes and light that she finds beautiful and interesting. She discovers her subjects in nature or in everyday objects or sights, often interpreting them abstractly.

“The pieces in this exhibit all begin with a photograph,” Pruitt said. “I then transfer a copy to paper or panel, making it possible to work into the image with various media including ink, gouache or acrylic paint and pencil.

“It is not always clear to the viewer where the photo stops and the mark-making or paint begins.”

Pruitt completed a bachelor of fine arts degree in 1968 at the University of Texas – Austin. She has long been a supporter of the Amarillo arts community.

Southern Light Gallery is located on the first floor of the Ware Student Commons on AC’s Washington Street Campus.
