APD Asks Residents to Help Prevent Car Thefts

The Amarillo Police Department is asking for the public’s help to prevent car thefts this winter.

According to APD, during the winter months, drivers are at a higher risk for vehicle thefts. In order to combat this, drivers are encouraged to stop their vehicle’s engine, remove keys from the ignition, set the parking brake and turn wheels toward the curb when stopping a vehicle. These tips can help prevent thieves from stealing cars that may be warming up.

APD says in October alone, 38 vehicles have been stolen. Of those 38 vehicles, 35 had keys in the ignition.
