Amarillo Crews Fight La Mesa Fire

Amarillo Fire Department officials say that Amarillo Fire crews spent the early part of Wednesday morning fighting a fight on La Mesa.

According to the Amarillo Fire Department, crews responded at 4:30am to a fire at 1706 La Mesa. When crews arrived on scene, they found a home-built van/camper combo on fire. The occupant of the van had been able to escape and was now at a neighbor's house.

The occupant of the van said he had left a candle lit on the stove and fell asleep. When he awoke, he found the camper to be full of smoke.

Crews brought the fire under control at 4:46am. Damages were estimated at $3,000.

This fire has been ruled accidental.
