APD Arrests Suspect in Murder on Fairmont

The Amarillo Police Department is investigating a murder that took place on North Fairmont Street in Amarillo.

According to APD, on Friday night, officers were dispatched to 107 N. Fairmont on the report of a stabbing. Officers arrived at 9:43pm and found Haley Sue Green, 22, was suffering from stab wounds. The suspect had left the scene.

Green later died at the scene as a result of her injuries.

While officers were at the scene of the stabbing, a report came in regarding a possible robbery in progress in the 300 block of Bellview. Patrol officers and K-9 units responded and found Mark Christopher Ahrens, 32, in the yard of the residence. Ahrens immediately ran from officers, but was caught. Ahrens resisted arrest and punched an office, but was taken into custody. Following his arrest, Ahrens was identified as the suspect in the stabbing.

Ahrens was placed under arrest for Murder, Evading Arrest or Detention and Assault on a Public Servant. He was booked into the Potter County Detention Center.

Justice of the Peace Thomas Jones has ordered an autopsy.
