Amarillo College Announces Changes to Leadership Structure in Academic Affairs

"Dr. Tamara Clunis, vice president of academic affairs at Amarillo College, has officially filled her own previous position amid a restructuring that includes a shift of responsibilities for a trio of veteran AC academic leaders.

Clunis announced that Edie Carter will serve as dean of academic success, a post Clunis herself held before she was elevated in June to vice president of academic affairs. Carter, formerly the associate dean of academic success, had been serving as interim dean of academic success.

The restructuring also impacts Frank Sobey, who Clunis named associate vice president of academic affairs. It is a position he previously held in an interim capacity. Sobey, who joined the AC faculty in 2005, had also served as a department chair and dean of arts and sciences, a division that henceforth will be split into a pair of more effective components – STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and liberal arts.

To direct these divisions, Clunis named Dr. Carol Buse to serve as dean of STEM, and Victoria Taylor-Gore to serve as dean of liberal arts. Both have been members of the Amarillo College faculty since 2000.

Buse, who has previous experience as a programmer/analysist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, had been serving as associate dean of STEM.

Taylor-Gore, an accomplished artist who displays her work in Amarillo and Santa Fe, N.M., had previously served as dean of AC’s School of Creative Arts, which will continue its service to students under the liberal arts umbrella."
