City Unveils MPEV Architect

The architecture firm Populous has been announced as the City's choice for the new downtown baseball stadium.

Yesterday the City of Amarillo announced that Populous will be the architecture firm in charge of the MPEV's construction. The firm has experience building stadiums around the world including the new Yankee Stadium in New York, New York, Marlins Park in Miami, Florida, and Suntrust Park in Cumberland, Georgia.

In the announcement yesterday regarding the MPEV agreement being signed with Elmore Sports Group, Amarillo residents found out information regarding the stadium and its operations. The stadium will be leased for $400,000 per year through the year 2048. The contract includes an out in 2038 if the City of Amarillo fails to keep up its promise of upgrades and renovations for industry stadiums. $225,000 of the stadium's yearly revenue from the lease will be put toward capital improvements needed for the stadium.

The agreement will also allow for up to 12 non-commercial events per year at the facility.

The MPEV is slated for a 2019 opening.
