City Plans Council Orientation

Amarillo's City Council will soon be attending an orientation to learn the state's rules and regulations.

On Tuesday, City Council members will attend an orientation in the City Council Conference Room at Amarillo City Hall (509 SE 7th Ave). The Council will learn about several issues that affect its procedures including the Texas Open Meetings Act, an Amarillo Police Department overview, an Amarillo Fire Department overview and an information technology overview.

The Council will also convene in executive session to discuss security training for council members.

The orientation comes after a quorum of the council appeared at an event that was not posted ahead of time. This action was a violation of the Texas Open Meetings Act, which will be discussed at the orientation.

Information about the Texas Open Meetings Act and other governmental procedures are typically addressed with new officials that take office. The City provides such information to new board members and other local entities do the same.

The City Council will be at 12pm on Tuesday, May 30th. More information is available at amarillo.gov.
