Downtown Parking Garage Set to Serve Graduations

The downtown Amarillo parking garage will be open this weekend to accommodate attendees to Amarillo's high school graduations.

For those attending the high school graduations at the Amarillo Civic Center, the City of Amarillo has decided to open up the new parking garage facility. The City says that parking will be free of charge this weekend.

The City's decision to allow graduation attendees to park in the garage comes as the City prepares to switch its downtown parking for events to paid parking at the new parking garage facility. The parking garage, which is nearing full completion in the City's phase programs, is meant to provide parking spaces for Amarillo City Hall and the Amarillo Civic Center.

Access to the parking garage is only available along 7th Avenue. Pedestrian traffic will run from the main lobbies into the corridor on Buchanan Street, then to the crosswalk at 6th Avenue.

Motorists should plan ahead for any delays.
