Collier to Challenge Dan Patrick

Mike Collier, the 2014 Democratic nominee for Texas Comptroller, will be challenging Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, in 2018.

According to the Texas Tribune, Collier stepped down from his role as finance chairman of the Democratic Party of Texas to seek the office. Collier told the Tribune that he will make a formal announcement regarding his seeking of the office, following a tour around the state.

Collier filed with the Texas Ethics Commission today to run for the office.

In Collier's last statewide campaign, he faced Republican Glenn Hegar in the race for Comptroller of Public Accounts. Collier netted 38 percent against Hegar's 58 percent. Collier won his 2014 primary nomination unopposed.
