Amarillo Residents Take Part in Super Bowl 51

Residents across Amarillo enjoyed watching Super Bowl LI, last night, as Tom Brady and the Patriots narrowly defeated the Atlanta Falcons.

The game was historical as it became the first Super Bowl in history to feature overtime play. The Patriots were able to tie the game in the fourth quarter, after taking a stomping in the previous three. In overtime, Tom Brady ran the ball into the end zone to win his fifth Super Bowl ring.

At the Pizza Hut at 2509 Georgia Street, football fans packed into the bar area to watch the Patriots and Falcons play. Patriots fans in the room were outnumbered the majority of Falcons fans. Cheers and boos could be heard throughout the establishment as Brady and Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan traded touchdowns on the field.

At Bubba's 33, at 2813 W. Interstate 40, fans also cheered on their favorite teams over dishes of hamburgers, pizzas and chicken strips.

While many NFL fans were watching the game at their favorite local restaurants, others were kicked back at home watching the two teams do battle. A high point of the night, for many fans, did not come just from the game, but also from the various commercials. Lady Gaga's halftime show also made fans talk across social media.

At the end of the night, Brady's Patriots captured the win, by a score of 34-28. But, while the outcome was not what some were hoping for, thousands of Amarilloans still tuned in to see one of the biggest sporting events of the year.
