Source: Steven Denny Considering Bid for District Court Spot

A source close to attorney Steven Denny says that the attorney is considering making a bid for the 320th District Court.

According to the source, Denny, an Amarillo-based attorney, is considering running for the 320th District Court. Denny would be the second announced candidate for the position as former Amarillo city attorney, and Underwood Law Firm employee, Marcus Norris has already filed to run in the Republican primary.

Incumbent judge Don Emerson is not seeking re-election in 2018.

When asked about his intention to make a bid for the spot, Denny said that he is in talks with family members, friends and supporters to gauge the possibility of a bid.

"I have been asked by several people to consider running for judge of the 320th District Court," Denny said in a statement. "Judge Emerson's legacy of decades of public service would be hard to follow. I am in discussions with friends, family and supporters but have not filed a treasurer election yet."

Steven Denny is an Amarillo-based criminal defense attorney. In 2016, Denny ran in the Republican primary for the office of 47th District Attorney.

Candidates have until December 11th to file for a spot on the ballot. Primary election day is March 6th.
