County Treasurer Races Attract Candidates

The county treasurer races for both counties in the Amarillo area have drawn candidates for 2018.

According to information from the Texas Secretary of State, the incumbent county treasurer for Potter County has filed to seek re-election. In addition, an employee of Randall County's treasurer office is seeking that county's spot in 2018. Thus far, these are the only candidates seeking the offices.

In Potter County, Leann Jennings is seeking re-election. Jennings is the incumbent for Potter County and has served as Potter County treasurer since she was appointed in 2003. Jennings was appointed in a 3-2 vote of the Potter County commission after Judge Arthur Ware declared the post vacant in 2003.

In Randall County, Angie Parker is running for Randall County treasurer. According to information from Randall County, Parker currently runs the Finance, Bail Bonds and Unclaimed Property department of the county treasurer's office.

Incumbent Glenna Canada has not yet declared whether she will seek re-election in 2018.

According to the Texas Association of Counties, the county treasurer has several jobs within the county itself. Duties of the county treasurer vary from county to county, but may include: depositing county revenues, preparing the payroll and serving as chief liaison between the county and the depository banks.

Candidates have until December 11th to file for a spot on the ballot.
