Fire Crews Respond to Airport Fire

Amarillo fire crews responded to a fire at Rick Husband International Airport on Thursday.

According to information from the Amarillo Fire Department, crews responded to the fire incident close to 4pm on Thursday. Officials say that smoke was shown coming from an aircraft that was parked on the runway of Rick Husband International Airport.

When crews arrived, they found a six-person Beechcraft Bonanza nose down in the safety area adjacent to the runway with fire and smoke coming from the engine area of the plane and from the grass around the plane.

Fire crews arrived on scene at 3:54pm and had the fire distinguished by 3:55pm. A single occupant of the plane was uninjured.

This incident is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
