A Texas Tech police officer was shot and killed on campus last night.
It was reported late Monday night that a suspect had been brought to the Texas Tech Police Department after drugs were found inside of his room. Officers brought the suspect to campus where he later pulled a gun and shot an officer in the head. The suspect then left on foot.
Texas Tech's campus in Lubbock went into lockdown and all evening events on campus were cancelled. The suspect, later identified as Hollis Daniels, a 19-year-old freshman, was taken into custody near the City Bank Auditorium in Lubbock.
Lubbock news outlets reported that Daniels confessed to the shooting of the Texas Tech police officer.
The officer was identified on Tuesday morning as Floyd East, Jr. East has been an officer with Texas Tech since 2014.
According to local outlets, Daniels has been charged with capital murder of a police officer and is in custody at the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $5 million bond.
