Is Amarillo City Councilman Les Simpson running for mayor in 2027? While nothing has been announced as of today, a recent domain registration is providing clues as to what the candidate’s intentions might be.

According to web domain registration records, lessimpsonformayor.com was registered in April 2026. While the domain was registered without public ownership details, a direct search shows the URL redirects to Simpson’s campaign website from his last campaign for City Council, lessimpson.com.

Simpson, a former newspaper publisher who now works as a business consultant, has served on the Amarillo City Council since 2023. He has been rumored as a potential candidate for mayor in this next municipal election, though he has not yet confirmed his plans publicly.

The incumbent mayor, Cole Stanley, has also not confirmed whether he will seek re-election in 2027.

Candidate filing begins in January 2027.
