State Sen. Kevin Sparks (R-Midland) is officially seeking re-election to a second term in office.
This week, Sparks announced that he will be running for another term, fresh off legislative victories for Republicans in Austin. Sparks, who was first elected in 2022, is a Midland energy businessman who has quickly established himself as one of the leading conservative voices in the Texas Senate.
In 2022, Sparks emerged from a crowded four-way primary as the main contender to replace then-Sen. Kel Seliger. Sparks — boosted by an endorsement from President Trump — won an outright majority in the first round of voting, outpacing a field that also included now-Amarillo City Councilman Tim Reid.
Thus far, no challengers have emerged to take on Sparks in 2026.
Filing for the primary will open in November. The primary election is scheduled for March 2026.
