Nearly $100,000 had been spent on the 108th District Court Judge runoff election as of last Saturday, finance reports show.

The biggest spender was Tim Pirtle, who reported having spent $54,302.25 since the March 5th primary. The vast bulk of this cash was paid to Nobox Creative LLC, his consultant, whom he paid $50,779.35. The single largest expense was made on May 15th, where he paid Nobox $25,000 and described the expense as “campaign consulting, advertising, mailers etc.” In addition to expenses made after the primary, Pirtle listed one pre-primary expense of $500 to Welcome Pardner, as the runoff reporting period began slightly before the primary election date.

Pirtle has also been the biggest fundraiser, having brought in $40,219.46 since the primary. The largest contribution was from Teamsters 577 D.R.I.V.E., who gave $3,500. Mullin Hoard & Brown LLP made the second largest contribution with $2,500. In addition to contributions, Pirtle loaned his campaign $20,000. At the end of the reporting period, Pirtle had $9,754.47 left on hand.

Sam Brown Silverman wasn’t far behind in spending, having spent $42,934.07 since the primary. Similar to Pirtle, his largest expenditure was to his consultant, Neel & Partners. According to his finance report, the $39,000 expense for television and social media advertising was paid on May 14th. Silverman reported an additional $7,645.39 on the portion of the report overlapping with the period before the March 5th primary. Two expenses made up the bulk of that figure: $3,292 to Alpha Media for radio ads and $3,068.38 to Whitney Russel Printing for a mailer.

Silverman has not raised nearly as much as Pirtle has since the primary, only having brought in $7,990 from donors. His largest donors since the primary were Lisa Cloninger, Kriss Cloninger, Dr. Edward Silverman, and Dr. Jodi Tyler, each of whom gave $1,000. Silverman’s campaign has instead been primarily funded via $70,000 he loaned to his campaign. At the end of the reporting period, Silverman had $16,167.58 left on hand.

Spending on this year’s runoff election has slightly outpaced 2022’s 47th District Court Judge runoff between Dee Johnson and Joe Marr Wilson. That year, a total of $93,426.81 was spent between the primary and the final pre-runoff report.

Early voting in the runoff ends on Friday, May 24th. Election Day is Tuesday, May 28th. Whoever wins will be the Republican nominee for the open 108th District Court Judge race and will almost certainly win the general unopposed.
