Ginger Nelson Leaves Office, Remains on City Boards

While Ginger Nelson is no longer Mayor of Amarillo, she is still on two city boards.

According to city records, Nelson’s term on the Council Audit Committee is set to end on December 31st of 2025, while her term on the First Responders Excellence and Innovation Fund Board is set to end on December 31st of this year.

Former Councilwoman Freda Powell is also a member of the Council Audit Committee, with her term also currently set to expire at the end of 2025.

Former Councilman Eddy Sauer is currently on three boards. His term on the Beautification and Public Arts Advisory Board is currently set to end at this end of this year. His term on the Parks and Recreation Board is set to end on June 23rd of next year, while his controversial appointment to the Animal Management and Welfare Advisory Board is set to finish at the end of next year.

Howard Smith, who will remain on the council until the winner of the June 24th runoff is sworn in, is currently on the Amarillo Local Government Corporation board and the Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Advisory Committee. Those appointments are set to expire at the end of 2024 and 2025 respectively.

Mayor Cole Stanley, who was sworn in today, is also on the Amarillo Local Government Corporation board, with his term set to expire at the end of next year.

City Manager Jared Miller is set to finish his term on the First Responders Excellence and Innovation Fund Board at the end of this year, while his term on the Council Audit Committee is set to expire at the end of 2025.
