Randall County Commissioners will consider approving an item on Tuesday to terminate the County’s agreement with the City of Amarillo to provide jail services.

According to the agenda posted for the Commission’s Tuesday meeting, the vote will be the final item taken up by commissioners during the meeting. If approved, the item would terminate the interlocal agreement between the City of Amarillo, Randall County, and the Randall County Sheriff for jail services for City prisoners.

No further details were provided on the agenda about the item. The agreement as originally passed by the City of Amarillo in 2019 can be downloaded via the button below.

Amarillo City Councilman Tom Scherlen declined to comment on the matter at this time, stating that he plans to wait until the conclusion of tomorrow’s executive session to find out more information about Randall County’s decision.

The meeting will be held Tuesday, November 7, at 9am at the Randall County Courthouse in Canyon.
