Former Texas Republican Party Chairman Allen West will be speaking in Amarillo to promote his candidacy for Governor next month.

According to the Texas Freedom Coalition, West will be speaking at an event hosted by the group in Amarillo on August 26. The event is being hosted as part of the group’s Texas First Election Series, which is also hosting candidates Chad Prather and Don Huffines at events across the state.

West, who recently resigned from his position as state party chairman to run for Governor, is making his first bid for statewide office in Texas after having previously served as a U.S. Congressman in Florida. In addition to West, Prather, Huffines, Paul Belew, and Kurt Schwab are challenging Gov. Greg Abbott in next year’s Republican primary election.

The event will begin at 6pm at the First Family Church in Amarillo (6101 South Bell).
