AC Claims Top Finishes in Regional Info-Technology Conference

Amarillo College students earned five top-ten finishes at the contest-filled U.S. Information Technology Collegiate Conference–South Central Regional hosted on Oct. 28-30 at AC’s West Campus.

With more than 70 individuals from as far off as Arizona and Missouri showcasing their skills, AC’s Brandon Harvard placed in the top five in Capture the Flag (CTF), and was among the top ten finishers in the Security Contest. For his CTF finish, Harvard claimed a CompTIA Security+ exam voucher worth $370.

Also landing in Security Contest top ten from AC were Bill Carson and Chris Ward. Additionally, AC’s Bradley Sellinger emerged from a field of 38 entrants in the PC Troubleshooting Contest to place sixth overall.

In all, AC had 13 students participate in contests for PC Troubleshooting, Security, Office Solutions and Applications Development.

The Regional event was attended by students from Texas State University, University of Houston, Missouri State University-Springfield, Oklahoma Panhandle State University, University of Arizona, and AC.

“We feel like we had a great turnout for our conference,” said Karen Boatman, Computer Information Systems program coordinator for AC. “We are now looking forward to advancing to the National Conference in Plano in late March.”

CIS instructor Delane McUne said “Our students did a great job competing against the four-year universities. This was an amazing experience for all of them.”

Many volunteers helped make the event a success, including judges from industry, contest writers, and many other volunteers.
