Amarillo Police are informing residents that a recent text message about ugly Christmas sweaters is a scam.

According to APD, some citizens have pointed out a text message that claims APD is doing an ugly Christmas sweater this year. Authorities say this text message is a scam and citizens are asked not to make any purchases or click any links through the text.

“If you get texts or emails or calls and you're not sure,” APD wrote in the statement, “DO NOT open or buy or give them any information.”

APD also informed citizens there is no reason to call the Police Department about this scam unless you have fallen victim.
