Editorial: On to 2021

By Thomas Warren III, Editor-in-Chief

Well, Amarillo, we did it. We survived 2020 and all of the craziness that went with the past year. Despite crazy events and a global pandemic, we have reached the finish line of this wild year. Give yourselves a round of applause.

Now that we have acknowledged the year gone by, it’s time to look ahead to what is coming up in 2021.

2021 has 365 days of unknown ahead for Amarilloans. Many events will occur and news stories will come and go. I am hoping Amarillo will remember 2021 as one of our best years ever — a time when our community made incredible strides forward in positive ways.

I know this upcoming year will present challenges, especially as local businesses continue to deal with the effects of the pandemic and government shut downs. My hope is that our local businesses will find tremendous success in the year ahead and prosper.

Additionally, Amarillo voters have an election to consider in May, when we will choose our mayor and City Council members for the next two years. I am hopeful that come 2021, Amarillo can ditch the establishment and send five pro-taxpayer representatives to work at City Hall. We need a change, but it can only come if citizens band together and demand a change at the ballot box.

What a crazy year is has been. Either way, we are fortunate to have made it to the new year, and I wish everyone a prosperous 2021.

On to the new year!
