Officer Involved Shooting Occurs on Johnson Street

One person was left dead following an officer-involved shooting on South Johnson Street this week.

On Wednesday, APD says officers made a traffic stop on a vehicle containing Isaac Ruiz, 22, who was wanted on a Parole Violation charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The vehicle stopped at Southeast 10th Avenue and Johnson Street, at which point officers say Ruiz exited the vehicle and started running south on Johnson. Authorities say Ruiz fired multiple rounds at officers, with officers returning fire and striking the suspect.

Ruiz was pronounced dead at the scene. A male and female who were in the vehicle allegedly evaded officers and crashed on Johnson at Interstate 40. The male and female were detained.

No officers were injured in this incident. This case remains under investigation by APD Special Crimes.
