'Done Deal': Funding for Vet School Moves Forward

Funding for the proposed Texas Tech Veterinary School of Medicine is a step closer to reaching the governor’s desk.

Last week, a House budget committee approved advancing $17 million in funding for the Texas Tech vet school. The $17 million is a step up from the $4 million approved during the previous legislative session. Legislators will need to sign off on the budget from House Bill 1 before the funding can reach Governor Abbott’s desk for final approval.

Former Texas Tech Chancellor Kent Hance called the project a done deal following the initial funding approval.

“The Texas Tech vet school is a done deal,” Hance said. “We are most fortunate for our legislative leaders. It would not have happened without the delegation from West Texas. This is a very important day in our history.”
