Juvenile Hit By Car, Taken to Hospital

A juvenile was sent to a local hospital this week with non-life threatening injuries following a collision.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, on Wednesday, officers were dispatched to the 7900 block of Mitcham Drive on an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Officers found that a juvenile was exiting an alley on an electric Razor scooter onto the 7900 block of Mitcham. The juvenile pulled out in front of a two-door 2008 Honda, which was driven by a 60-year-old male. The Honda was unable to stop in time and hit the juvenile.

The juvenile on the scooter was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. This incident remains under investigation by the APD Traffic Investigation Squad.

Officers say this incident is an example of why parents should talk to their children about bicycle and scooter safety, considering the coming warm weather. Drivers are also reminded to adhere to slow speed limits and stop and yield signs in residential neighborhoods.
