AC Incumbents to Seek Re-Election

Voters will have a contested race to decide in this year’s contest for the Amarillo College Board of Regents.

According to Amarillo College, four candidates have filed thus far to seek seats on the school’s board of regents. Challenger Jack Westbrook has filed, along with the three incumbents up for re-election this year. Dr. Paul Proffer, Dr. David Woodburn, and Johnny Mize will all be seeking another six year term on the board.

For each of the candidates, voters will have three votes to distribute for three seats, meaning each candidate’s name will appear three times on the ballot. Voters can then choose to divide their votes as they see fit, or to cast all three votes for one candidate.

Members of the Board of Regents are tasked with setting spending and taxing policy for the district, approving some staff hirings, approving employment of the college president, and setting other general policy for the school. Board members also serve a ceremonial role at school events like graduations.

Candidate filings will continue for the board through February 15th. Election day is May 4th.
