AC Professor Picks Up Lifetime Award

Steven Cost, associate professor of Art at Amarillo College, has been presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who’s Who®, the world’s largest publisher of biographical profiles.

As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected based on current reference value and factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field.

Cost, a member of AC’s faculty since 1995, has nearly 50 years of professional experience. He has been a freelance artist and designer since 1970, and the owner of Steven Cost Art Gallery since 2008.

He completed his bachelor’s degree in commercial art in 1971 at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, cum laude. After service in the U.S. Navy, Cost earned three master’s degrees, two of them – in painting and graphic design – at West Texas A&M University.

A past board member of the Amarillo chapter of the American Advertising Federation, Cost is frequently called upon to give community art lectures and exhibitions, and he often serves as an art-competition judge.

Before joining AC’s art faculty, Cost twice was named teacher of the year at Texas State Technical College. He is a past recipient of the Grumbacher Excellence in Art award and the NISOD Medal for outstanding community college educators.

He has been featured in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Education.
