A White House official is reportedly considering jumping into the race to replace outgoing U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon), as reported by Roll Call.

This week, it was reported that Ronny Jackson, former Physician to the President, is considering joining the race for the U.S. House District 13 seat currently held by Thornberry. Jackson currently serves as Chief Medical Advisor to the President and was President Trump’s nominee for U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs in 2018, but withdrew his nomination ahead of a vote.

Jackson is a native of Levelland, which is located in the 19th District, just south of the 13th District. That district is represented by Republican Jodey Arrington.

If Jackson joins the race, he will face a crowded Republican primary field that already includes Elaine Hays, Josh Winegarner, Chris Ekstrom, Vance Snider, Monique Worthy, Jamie Culley, and Kevin McInturff. Democrat Greg Sagan is unopposed in his primary.
