AC to Host Photography Exhibit of MSU Professor's Works

The “constructed photographs” of Dominic Lippillo will be on display from Jan. 14 through Feb. 27 at the Southern Light Gallery on Amarillo College’s Washington Street Campus.

The exhibit featuring images from Lippillo’s series “Stories We Tell Ourselves” is free and open to the public.

“I seek out non-specific American landscapes to become settings that simultaneously feel familiar and unfamiliar,” Lippillo wrote in his artist statement. “In doing so, I embellish the images by adding atmospheric conditions and appropriated figures that are alien to the melancholic landscapes.”

Lippillo is an associate professor of photography at Mississippi State University whose work, according to his biographical sketch, “questions the role of photography by making digitally constructed images that address notions of space versus place, memory, and experience.”

Selections of his collaborative work are included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Photographic Art; the Museum of Fine Arts of Houston; the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa; and the University of North Dakota.

He completed a bachelor’s degree in photography at Youngstown State University in 2005 and earned a master’s degree in photography from Ohio University in 2009.

AC’s Southern Light Gallery is located on the first floor of the Ware Student Commons.
