AC Touts High Passage Rate for Nursing Students

"Data released by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing confirms that Amarillo College graduates continue to exhibit exemplary first-time pass rates on the national licensure exam – the NCLEX – for registered nurses.

The latest national report covers the period from October of 2017 through March of 2018.

Of the 70 December graduates of AC’s Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) program who attempted the licensure exam during that span, 68 of them passed. The superlative 97-percent success rate is well ahead of pass rates established both statewide and nationally.

The NCLEX pass rate among all nursing programs in Texas was 91 percent over the same period, while the national first-time pass rate was 85 percent.

First-time pass rates are significant. The Texas Board of Nursing requires programs to achieve a minimum 80-percent first-time annual pass rate to maintain Full Approval status.

Additionally, the Board extends commendations to programs in which at least 90 percent of candidates pass the NCLEX on their first attempt.

Amarillo College has maintained its Full Approval status and received state commendations throughout each of the past five National Council of State Boards of Nursing reporting periods.

“I think we have great students and an incredibly committed faculty,” said Debby Hall, interim ADN program director. “The members of our nursing faculty go above and beyond when it comes to ensuring our students are successful.

“It is clear by these pass rates that our students continue to work hard to demonstrate they are competent entry-level nurses. I’m proud of how their hard work consistently reflects on our ADN program and our College.”"
