WTAMU Announces Establishment of 'Pistol Pete' Scholarship

West Texas A&M University has announced the creation of a new scholarship to honor a sports icon.

This week, WTAMU Athletics Director Michael McBroom announced the creation of the "Pistol" Pete Pedro Scholarship. The scholarship will honor Pedro, who helped lead WT to multiple wins during the 1960's. Pedro received multiple honors throughout his storied athletic career and was named to the WTAMU Athletic Hall of Champions as part of the 1988 inaugural class. Pedro recently passed away at his home in April.

The scholarship will provide financial assistance to one football team member for WTAMU every year. Players will be required to hold a minimum 2.5 GPA to be eligible and the recipient will be chosen by the WTAMU coaching staff. Initial donors to the endowed scholarship include Wayne Fox, David Sims, Corky Dawson, John Bryant and Jerry Logan.

If you would like to contribute, you can contribute through the "Giving" tab on gobuffsgo.com or by mailing a check to WT Athletics "Attn: Pistol Pete Memorial Scholarship," WTAMU Box 60049, Canyon, TX 79016.
