First Projects Funded by 2017 AISD Bond Set to Begin

The first projects that will be funded by a $100 million Amarillo Independent School District bond will begin later this year.

According to AISD, the first projects funded by voter approved bonds will begin in November. The first set of construction will take place on Fannin Middle School and Lamar Elementary School campuses. Coronado and Lee Elementary Schools and Amarillo and Tascosa High Schools will benefit from projects soon after.

The Fannin and Lamar projects, with a price tag estimated at a combined $16 million, will feature renovations for bullet resistant glass, refurbished courtyards, bathroom renovations, classroom additions and facility maintenance. Lamar Elementary will also receive new drainage improvements and glass installation.

Voters narrowly approved funding the $100 million bond in November of 2017. This is the second Amarillo ISD bond that has been approved in the last five years.
