Amarillo ISD Teachers to See Pay Raise

Teachers at the Amarillo Independent School District will be seeing a slight increase in pay during the next fiscal year.

This week, trustees voted to approve the pay increase for the upcoming fiscal year, with professional employees receiving a 2 percent pay increase and hourly staff with receive a 2.5 percent pay increase. The increase will become part of the district budget, which is up for approval later this year.

Following the vote, trustee John Betancourt praised the decision, stated that he is pleased with the increase and that he "voted his conscience."

"This evening without hesitation I gladly voted with my conscience," Betancourt said on Facebook. "I am proud that my proposal to my fellow Board of Trustees was supported in support of a 2% increase for Professional Staff and a 2.5% for Hourly Staff! I am the proud Son and Grandson of an Ex-AISD Custodian and Cafeteria cook! "
