Suspect Arrested After Driving Past Scene of Crime in Stolen Vehicle

An auto theft suspect was arrested this week after driving past the scene of a crime in a stolen vehicle.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, officers were dispatched to a convenience store in the 800 block of South Georgia Street at 11:01pm on April 18th. A vehicle had been left unattended at a gas pump with keys and a firearm inside.

Officers were speaking with the victim when at 11:24pm, the stolen vehicle drove back by the scene of the crime, going northbound on Georgia Street. Officers followed the vehicle and initiated a stop. Shawn Roberts, 32, was taken into custody and was arrested for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. Roberts was booked into the Potter County Detention Center.

The vehicle and firearm were returned to the victim.
